Six Steps to Improve Leadership Programmes

Every other leadership development training has certain lines and basic facts, highly available to the individual concerned for the basic requirement of developing their management skill and techniques. These training programs must effectively deal with deliberations on leadership, and not just limit the indulgent of the term within a limited sense. These training are highly important and must also embrace within themselves a comprehensive understanding of leadership virtues its applications and features, as applicable to individual requirements, and hence focus on the fine line of difference that exists between leadership and management.

Organizations are still in the search for good and capable managers to maintain the panache of the organization and as well to keep the operations going on. The organization development needs to modify their operation not to just inspire proficiency, but to both recognize and foster leaders. There has been established around six rules to assist various organizations to make their leadership development training operative and appealing. They are:

1. Fashion an Organizational Context:
Writing guidelines or creating an agenda from the bestselling business books that suggest the best ideas are of no use to the organization. It would be better to apply the strategies than to read them. Organizational expansion or growth needs to focus on ideas that more specifically define their goals:
  • Polishing candidates for the industry.
  • Applying them to company practice.
Leadership development should develop from the strategic plan, and not from best sellers.

2. Merging Management and Leadership:
Many organizations create agendas and guides particularly designed to support employees and perceive a broader world beyond their profession. An organization which creates effective frameworks also needs to follow the regulation of those frameworks and hence apply:
  • Teamwork
  • Collaboration
  • Negotiations
  • Prioritization
This ensures that leaders are responsible and accountable for their management assignments.

3.  Action Oriented:
Leadership development is particularly about putting people into such situations that stretch their view, assess their mental models and hence encounter their assumptions that make them practice events which might not be a regular event.

4. Leaders are not Synthetic:
Leaders can never be made. It is a fact that managers can surely be taught to work efficiently and competently, but leadership development tends to be a promising property. Hence instead of manufacturing leaders organizations should be concentrating more on to the practice of identifying them, nurture them and give them the liberty and approval of becoming leaders.

5. Identifying Leadership Attributes:
Leadership is a list of attributes such as:
  • Integrity
  • Authenticity
  • Curiosity
  • Tolerance
All these can be inherited rather induced within the work environment to build better and responsible managers. Thus, leadership development training is a complicated process.

6. Grant Permission, Not Incentives:
Leadership development is absolutely a complex concept just like collaboration and coaching. The prime factor which matters is the requirement of permission and not incentive. Leaders are born to lead, but they are always restricted with hierarchical edicts and decrees that execute through oppressive practices and propagate suspicion in every area.
